The Closer  showcases several minutes of Dave Chappelle spreading jokes surrounding transgender people and the LGBTQ community. In one particular moment, Dave explained that he was "team TERF" which basically stands for "trans-exclusionary radical feminist." He also joked about trans women's genitalia at one point. He also mentioned that "gender is a fact" and went into a story about beating up a lesbian woman. These jokes were being made during a historic year for anti-transgender legislation, which was released and brought into at least 33 states in the U.S. It was also less than a year after a record number of transgender people, most being trans women of colour, were killed.
