Little Mix seem to have taken a swing at their ex-bandmate Jesy Nelson in a new single.

The group are in the midst of releasing a new song "Cut You Off" which is about the girls needing to "protect their energy" and cut off anyone who doesn't add to their positivity.

During a recent Instagram Live, the group revealed the name of the song and band member Jade Thirlwall revealed writing the song was "like therapy."

"'Cut You Off' was written a couple of months ago in a session with Lost Boy and Lauren Aquilina. It was kind of like a therapy session writing "Cut You Off" actually."

"I love "Cut You Off" because it's just a really good solid manic pop song."

Band member Perrie Edwards added, "You let it all out and it's a safe place."

Some of the lyrics have now been revealed, and many fans are believing the song may be about former band member Jesy Nelson.

In the track they sing, "How did we get here? We used to be so cool. Nothing lasts forever but I really thought we could."

"I know there'll be tears but it's worth the broken heart. If I can't protect my energy, I gotta cut you off."

This track comes just after Jesy revealed there were "disagreements" between her and her bandmates about how to carve their career out.

"I had times and moments when I really loved it, but it felt like there were way more times that I was sad than I was happy."

"I don't think people realise how hard it is to be in a girl band. There's a lot that comes with it that people don't know about."

"And obviously I don't get to make my own decisions. Three people have to agree as well, so there would always be disagreements on certain things."

Jesy, who is scheduled to release her debut solo single "Boyz" this month, has als revealed that she hasn't spoken to her former bandmates since leaving the group.

"No, not as much. Not now. I think we all need time. It's a big thing that's happened."

"I think they're just as sick as a three. They're still doing it for girl power. I still love them to pieces. They were like my sisters."
