Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman React To Deadpool & Wolverine Opening Weekend Box Office

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have opened up about the box office earnings for the opening weekend of Deadpool & Wolverine.

The film has earned around U$205 million at the domestic box office, according to sources. This makes it the biggest R-rated opening of all time.

Previously, this record was set by Deadpool (U$132 million) and Deadpool 2 (U$125 million)

Ryan, who is also a co-writer and producer on the film, reacted to this news saying, "This is kind of hard to process," he wrote. "But thank you to everyone who went to see the film this weekend... wow."

Hugh Jackman also opened up about the record-breaking numbers.

He shared an image of Wolverine looking at an edited picture frame. The frame reads, "#1 Movie in the world."

"Deadpool and Wolverine is the #1 movie in the world. Thank you ALL," he wrote.

This film is also the eighth-biggest domestic opening of all time, following The Avengers in 2012, and joining the ranks of other Marvel films.

Not to mention, the film also opened internationally at $233 million, grossing $438 million globally for the weekend.

Directed by Shawn Levy, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the titular roles, fans will also see Emma Corrin, Rob Delaney, and Matthew Macfadyen in the film, along with a range of surprise A-list cameos.

The filmmakers and stars were previously asked if they felt pressure for the film to be a hit.

Shawn Levy said, "I’m aware of that. We decided early, we’re going to shut out the noise."

Hugh Jackman added, "There’s always pressure, isn’t there? It doesn’t matter what movie you’re doing."

"In 1999, everyone was like, 'You are doing a comic movie?' I had people say to me, 'Make sure you booked another film before this thing comes out.' A good movie, whatever the genre, will rise to the surface."

Ryan said, "It’s changed a lot. But people are craving connection. Even last year, [Barbie and Oppenheimer] were huge event movies that people felt compelled to experience together."

"You need to have a movie that has a heightened-spectacle element to draw people, more so than those mid-budget films that packed them in in the early aughts."

Deadpool & Wolverine is currently in theaters.
