Tyler Christopher’s Cause Of Death Revealed
Star of 'General Hospital' Tyler Christopher's cause of death has been revealed, following his death in October last year, at the age of 50.
The cause of death has been listed as positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication. This information comes from a report by the Medical Examiners Office.
Coronary artery atherosclerosis was listed as a contributing condition. This means plaque buildup in the arteries.
Due to the position he was in, it was reported that Tyler suffocated to death. The coroner ruled this was due to alcohol use. The death has been ruled an accident.
Tyler's death was announced by his former 'General Hospital' costar Maurice Benard.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.”
Maurice paid respects to Tyler and called him a "truly talented individual."
“[He] relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him. Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”
Other friends also paid tribute to the star after his death, including his former fiancée and 'General Hospital' costar, Vanessa Marcil.
The two were engaged until they separated in 1999. She reposted a statement from Amber Tamblyn that read, "This is crushing news. Tyler Christopher was a generous scene partner who was always respectful and wonderful on screen and off.”
Tyler was most known for his roles as Nikolas Cassadine and Connor Bishop on 'General Hospital.' He played these roles from 1996 to 2016.
This led to him being nominated for five Daytime Emmy Awards, with one win in 2016 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
He also played Stefan DiMera on 'Days of Our Lives' from 2001 to 2019. He also received an Emmy nomination for this.
His other credits include 'The Lying Game,' 'Moon Crash,' 'Thor: God of Thunder,' and 'Ice Storm.'
