Elle King Postpones Show After Grand Ole Opry Scandal
Following her drunk performance at the Grand Ole Opry, Elle King postponed her show at Billy Bob's Texas by eight months, without explanation.
The venue announced the change on social media saying, "Original event tickets will be accepted for the new date.”
The venue told fans "refunds are available at the point of purchase.” The new date is scheduled for September 21. “Thank you for your understanding!”
Elle King has yet to publicly mention the concert change. Fans speculated the postponement is related to her controversial omission of being “f–king hammered” while performing at the Grand Ole Opry.
One person said, "That Dolly Parton event is sending ripples,” with another commenting, "Yeah you can’t disrespect Dolly and then come here. Texas ain’t Tennessee.”
A third said, “Ooooooh! Somebody is in TROUBLE!!!”
On January 19, King caused a commotion after she started slurring her words during her performance at the Grand Ole Opry. Social media states she shouted "f--k" multiple times.
“You ain’t getting your money back. I’ll tell you one thing more: ‘Hi, my name is Elle King [and] I’m f—king hammered.’”
As this was a family-friendly event honouring Dolly Parton's 78th birthday, fans were shocked.
The Opry released a statement apologising for the incident.
“We deeply regret and apologize for the language that was used during last night’s second Opry performance."
Elle has not yet issued an apology but has admitted to struggling with substance abuse for years.
In February 2022, she claimed she knows how to balance her drinking and performing.
“I really like to drink and sing. I don’t want to get as drunk as I used to. It’s easier for me to say: ‘Yeah, I want to drink and party and [then] go on stage.’ I get nervous before I go on stage, [so] I have a couple of drinks [first]. Drinking makes me less nervous about hitting the notes when I sing. If I don’t make them, it won’t sting as much.”
Elle's father is actor Rob Schneider, and her mother is model London King. She rose to fame in 2012 after she released her self-titled EP.
'Come Get Your Wife,' her first country album, debuted last year.
Elle is also mother to son Lucky (2), shared with Dan Tooker.
