Jake T. Austin Confirms ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Reboot

Jake T. Austin was missing from the recent Wizards of Waverly Place reunion and has now confirmed his return to the beloved series. 

“Wow! Am looking forward to getting together with my wizards family,” he wrote on Instagram, reposting David DeLuise and David Henrie’s post.

In the post, DeLuise and Henrie were smiling alongside Selena Gomez and Maria Canals-Barrera. 

Wizards of Waverly Place originally aired on Disney Channel between 2007 and 2012.

It was about three siblings who balanced magic training with normal teen lives in New York City. 

David Henrie played Justin, Selena was Alex, and Jake portrayed Max. DeLuise and Maria played their parents, Jerry and Theresa. 

Jerry and Theresa ran a substation with a magical lair in the freezer. 

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Henrie and Selena would produce a spinoff. It's expected to follow the next generation of wizards-in-training. 

The new show currently has a pilot order and will see Henrie and Selena reprise their roles.

The show is set to follow Justin after he gave up his powers. He's focused on family but meets a young wizard, Billie, needing a mentor. While helping Billie, Justin returns to the magic world. 

It hasn't been revealed what Max or Alex have been up to, but the cast has had their own ideas. 

Henrie said, "I think a great place to start the [potential new] show would be the opposite version of that, so you have somewhere to go throughout the series. So, if you started the show where the family’s divided, and not united." He guessed Alex would be “the Meryl Streep of the wizard world” and a major fashionista and Max would be a sandwich shop mogul.

Most of the cast has remained close, except for Selena. She referred to losing touch with the cast as "the biggest mistake" of her life so far. 

“I slowly became, like, kind of shamed. I felt ashamed of the decisions that I made. I didn’t want you guys to see me in the state that was I in. Because A: you would have told me the truth, which terrifies me. And B: I didn’t want to let you down.”

Since leaving Disney, Selena has struggled with her mental health and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and Lupus. 

Additionally, she suffered several well-known break-ups, including one with ex Justin Bieber. She is now currently in a relationship with Benny Blanco.
