Chris Young Cleared Of Assault Charges

Chris Young has all assault charges cleared after he was arrested in Nashville.

The District Attorney for Nashville, Glenn Funk said, "Regarding the Chris Young incident – After a review of all the evidence in this case, the Office of the District Attorney has determined that these charges will be dismissed."

Chris' attorney released his own statement, saying Chris was relieved the charges had been dismissed.

"Mr. Young and I are gratified with the DA’s decision clearing him of the charges and any wrongdoing."

Chris Young was arrested in Nashville, and booked into the Nashville Metro jail on January 22nd. He was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault of an officer.

The following day he was released and was scheduled to appear in court on February 16th.

The alleged incident occurred after Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) agents walked into a bar to complete a compliance check.

Chris allegedly started questioning the agents, recording video of them.

They left and walked to another establishment for another compliance check.

As they were attempting to leave, Chris allegedly put his hands out to stop them from leaving. One agent claimed Chris then "struck" him on the shoulder, and started "yelling and screaming."

A reporter managed to obtain surveillance footage of the incident.

The clip shows Chris waiting to talk to the TABC agents. When they passed by, Chris reached out his hand to stop them.

One agent proceeded to shove Chirs, who then stumbled and fell to the ground. He got to his feet and backed away from the agent with his hands in front of him.

The reporter said, “According to Young’s lawyer all his client wanted to do was to confirm the identity of the men — who were not in obvious uniforms … and ask about the photo of his ID."

Chris' lawyer denied the allegations in a statement.

“What happened to my client Chris Young at a bar in Nashville on Monday night was wrong and he never should have been arrested and charged in the first place. In light of the video evidence, Tennessee ABC needs to drop the charges and apologize for the physical, emotional and professional harm done towards my client.”

Chris first appeared on the scene after he won season four of 'Nashville Star' in 2006.

He proceeded to sign with RCA Records Nashville and has since released eight studio albums. Earlier this month, he announced his forthcoming record, 'Young Love & Saturday Nights.' It's set to be released on March 22nd.

“It’s time. I’ve put a lot into this next one and I cannot wait for y’all to hear it."

He said the album is "a little louder [and] a little more raw” than his past releases.

“Even the stripped-down songs are heavier. I love creating music and I love making it and the fact that I get to do that for a living is a pretty incredible thing.”

Prior to announcing the album, he released a single, titled the same, in July last year.

One of the songwriters credited on the track is David Bowie, because the song borrows a guitar riff from the superstar's song 'Rebel Rebel' from 1974.

“There are a lot of songs where people use something as a sample or have exactly the same melody or lyric. This is different. This is creating something new, with a nod to something that pre-existed. And if you get the reference, it just made the song even cooler for you. Just to have a song that has David Bowie listed as a songwriter is amazing.”
