Podcaster Tyler Goodson Killed During Police Standoff
Tyler Goodson, known for the popular S-Town podcast series, has died following a standoff with police.
It was reported officers arrived at an Alabama home after midnight and allegedly found Goodson barricaded inside.
“A multitude of law enforcement officers from various agencies responded to the scene to assist. During the course of the incident, Goodson brandished a gun at officers. Goodson was shot and later pronounced deceased."
According to sources, he wrote on Facebook, "Police bout to shoot me down in my own yard."
While talking about the incident, Mayor Jeff Dodson called it "the worst day in office I've ever had." He revealed he's known Goodson's family for over 30 years, which made the situation more difficult.
"This is a devastating situation. We're still — all of us — still in shock about it. Tyler was a talented young man. I mean he had many talents, but depression is real. He wasn't just a character in a podcast. He was a son, father, [and] brother. It's going to be hard for the family."
He also asked the public to be "compassionate and respectful" towards the Goodson's loved ones. According to sources, he leaves behind five children.
The S-Town podcast reached quick success upon release in 2017. In the first week, downloads reached 16 million. It has also received a 2017 Peabody Award.
The podcast has been described as a show "about a man named John who despises his Alabama town and decides to do something about it."
"He asks Brian to investigate the son of a wealthy family who’s allegedly been bragging that he got away with murder. But then someone else ends up dead, and the search for the truth leads to a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man’s life."
