Rudolph Isley From The Isley Brothers, Dead At Age 84

Founder of the Isley Brothers, and part member Rudolph Isley has died at the age of 84. 

His cause of death remains unknown, however a source reported he could've died from suffering a heart attack.

Rudolph, along with brothers Ronald and O’Kelly, formed the group in the late 1950s, and saw massive success with songs such as 'Twist & Shout,' 'This Old Heart of Mine' and 'It’s Your Thing.'

By 1971, the group included their younger brothers Ernie and Marvin, as well as Rudolph’s brother-in-law Chris Jasper.

Rudolph left the band in 1989 to become a pastor, but has appeared alongside his group over the years.

Following his exit, the group released songs like 'Busted' and 'Contagious.'

They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and were given the honour by Little Richard.

Their influence spanned generations, including having Ice Cube and the Notorious B.I.G. sampling their music.

Rudolph spent most of his early life singing gospel in church. He married Elaine Jasper in 1958, and had four children with her.

Earlier this year, he sued Ronald, claiming Ronald registered the Isley Brothers trademark behind his back.

Court documents say Rudolph alleged his brother cost him money and made business deals without his knowledge.

Rudolph stated he and Ronald came to an agreement to evenly split the band’s profits after the death of O’Kelly, who passed away from a heart attack in 1986.

The documents claim Ronald violated this agreement and took the use of the band’s name for “visual recordings and audiovisual recordings featuring music and animation.”

Rudolph wanted to be paid back for half of the earnings and requested the judge reinstate his 50% share in the band’s revenue.
