Dave Hughes "Traumatised" After Mugging

Dave Hughes is "traumatised" following being robbed while trying to buy dinner for his family.

The radio personality recalled the incident, admitting he was shaken up over the whole ordeal.

He rode his electric bike to a SpudBar in Melbourne, attempting to buy baked potatos dinners for his family, but the shop was closed.

He went to call his wife to tell her they needed a plan B when a man walked up behind him and grabbed his phone.

“I’m on my bike and put my phone up to my ear and all of a sudden someone grabs my phone out of my hand. Yes, they stole my phone."

“I look and I’m gonna say it’s a man, a big man, and he is off his nut! I’m going to say he’s a meth head.”

The man attempted to talk on the phone, but got frustrated when no one answered.

“He walks away with my phone in a ‘methy walk’ and tries to speak to someone on the phone, but I haven’t even had the chance to make the call yet."

“He goes, ‘You weren’t even talking to anyone!’ Like it was my fault; I was pretending to make a phone call.”

When he was 10 metres away, Dave claimed to yell at him to "give me my phone back” but had “no intention to chase him."

“So at this point, my phone had been stolen by a guy who was obviously on drugs and he’s big and I didn’t know what to do.”

It was said Hughesy should've called the police, even if the man eventually threw the phone back.

“I know we’re all just like, ‘Oh, that’s just sort of how it rolls.' But when you start accepting dysfunction like that, then dysfunction will rule.”

Hughesy has been relying on his electric bike after losing his licence last month.

“The first time in 35 years this has happened to me. I’ve lost my drivers licence. I cannot drive. I’ve been suspended from driving.”

“I’m not a drink-driver, I don’t even drink. It’s not that, and I’m not a mad speeder. But doing 46km/hour in 40 zones, do that often enough and you get a point, a point, a point, a point, and they’re all gone.”
