Princess Diana is the one who invented the concept of a revenge dress, but is now among many who are representing the true meaning behind a revenge dress.

In 1994, Princess Diana wore an off-the-shoulder little black dress by Christina Stanbolian to the Serpentine Gallery Party, taking place the same night King Charles III admitted to having an affair during his marriage.

The next morning, this was said regarding her fashion choice, "Revenge is chic. Di last night showed Charles what he’s missing.”

A replica sold for £18,000 in March 2011.

“The next day the papers — instead of showing a downcast, dejected Diana — revealed across their front pages a ravishingly beautiful woman, in her prime and with everything in the future to look forward to.”

Diana and Charles, sharing sons Prince William and Prince Harry, finalised their split in 1996, one year prior to her tragic death at age 36 in a car accident.

Elizabeth Debicki portrayed the royal in season five of 'The Crown' and dished on wearing a replica of the gown.

Since then, many other stars have turned heads with their own versions of revenge fashion.

In March this year, Ariana Madix stunned in a red cutout dress for the season ten reunion of 'Vanderpump Rules.'

The look came just weeks after she learned her boyfriend of nine years had cheated on her with their costar. The two split amid the scandal.

“Ariana, is it safe to say you’re wearing a revenge dress today?” Andy Cohen said.

Madix replied: “I feel it certainly looks that way, huh? … I think his eyes are gonna bleed.”
