Icon Tony Bennett Dead at Age 96

Icon Tony Bennett has passed away at the age of 96, with many stars honouring his legacy through tributes.

"My most heartfelt condolences go out to Tony Bennett's family and friends. They're also my emotional family and friends." Added actor Josh Gad, "This one shouldn't sting so much because any of us would take 96 years, but man is it hard to imagine a world without the great Tony Bennett," said Nile Rodgers.

He passed away in New York, his death confirmed by his publicist Sylvia Weiner, just two weeks from his 97th birthday.

"Tony left us today but he was still singing the other day at his piano and his last song was, 'Because of You,' his first #1 hit. Tony, because of you we have your songs in our heart forever." 

He is survived by his wife Susan Benedetto, sons Danny and Dae Bennett, daughter Johanna and Antonia Bennett, and nine grandchildren.

No official cause of death was revealed, but his passing comes after he battled Alzheimer's disease, diagnosed in 2016.

His last public concert was at Radio City Music Hall in August 2021, alongside Lady Gaga.

He had a whopping 70+ year long career in the music industry, releasing dozens of hits including 'I Left My Heart In San Francisco,' 'I Wanna Be Around,' 'Firefly,' and 'The Good Life.'

His last album was 'Love for Sale' with Lady Gaga, released in 2021, winning the Grammy for 'Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.'

He won 20 Grammys throughout his career, including a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' in 2001. He also earned 2 Emmys, and was names a Kennedy Center Honoree, a Gershwin Prize Honoree, and a NEA Jazz Master.
