Pete Davidson In Rehab Following Mental Health Issues
Pete Davidson has entered rehab following struggles surrounding PTSD and borderline personality disorder.
The admission comes just weeks after an angry, explicit voicemail was left by Pete for the Senior Vice President of cruelty investigations at PETA, Daphna Nachminovitch.
The voicemail was in response to Daphna's statement condemning Pete's decision to buy a cavapoo puppy rather than adopt from a shelter.
Not long afterwards, he addressed the voicemail that said he wanted "a specific hypoallergenic dog" as he is allergic to most breeds. He believed adopting one "wasn't an option, and if it was, it was rare."
“I haven’t seen my mom and sister cry like that in over 20 years. I was trying to cheer up my family. I was already upset that the store had filmed me without my permission or acknowledgment. Then this organization (PETA) made a public example of us, making our grieving situation worse. I am upset. It was a poor choice of words. I shouldn’t have said what I said, but I am not sorry for standing up for myself and my family.”
Weeks later, he was charged with reckless driving after he crashed his car into a Beverly Hills home in March, the arraignment scheduled for July 27th.
“We believe that Mr. Davidson engaged in reckless driving, which ultimately resulted in his involvement in a serious collision into a home. Luckily, no one was seriously injured as a result of this collision."
Pete allegedly lost control of his car while driving in a neighbourhood in Beverly Hills, and was not arrested at the time as authorities didn't believe drugs or alcohol were part of the incident.
“The structure of the house is damaged tremendously. It was very dramatic.”
Pete has also been open about his struggles previously with mental health, opening up about receiving a borderline personality disorder diagnosis several years before.
“I was always just so confused all the time, and just thought something was wrong, and didn’t know how to deal with it. Then, when somebody finally tells you, the weight of the world feels lifted off your shoulders. You feel so much better.”
He even spoke out about about a past rehab visit during a standup act in February 2020, revealing he'd worked on new material during his time in the facility.
And this wasn't his first time he approached his mental health issues with humour. During an SNL Weekend Update special in 2018, he encouraged Kanye West to take psychiatric medication after he went on a political rant supporting Donald Trump.
“Take ’em. There’s no shame in the medicine game. I’m on ’em. It’s great."
