Paxton Whitehead, Known For 'Friends,' Dead at 85

Paxton Whitehead, known for 'Friends,' ' Frasier,' and Broadway has died at the age of 85. His career spanned almost 70 years, including countless roles on TV and in films. 

His son Charles confirmed he passed at a hospital in Virginia. His team also reflected the loss saying he was "loved and respected by his family and everyone who knew him."

"He was a cherished client, a luminary in the acting world who is renowned for his extraordinary talent and dedication to his craft. He was admired for his versatility and many roles he performed on stage, TV and film. His contributions to the world of entertainment will be cherished and remembered for years to come."

He made his Broadway debut in 1962 in the play 'The Affair,' then went on to appear in numerous productions including 'The Harlequin Studio,' ' My Fair Lady,' and 'The Crucifer of Blood.'

He had received an honourary degree in arts in 1978, and was nominated for a Tony for his role in 'Camelot' in 1980.

He also appeared in several television shows and films, landing guest roles in 'Murder, She Wrote,' 'Ellen,' '3rd Rock from the Sun,' 'The Drew Carey Show,' 'Mad About You,' 'Frasier,' and 'Law & Order.'

He also appeared alongside Jennifer Anniston, playing Rachel's boss at Bloomingdale's in 'Friends.'

He continued working on Broadway and regional theatre until his last stage appearance in 2014.

Jim Piddock has since shared a tribute to his friend, honouring Paxton.

"Heartbroken to hear my dear friend and mentor Paxton Whitehead has passed away. He was an extraordinary actor, a brilliant friend, and truly wonderful human being. He meant so much to so many people and always brought a smile to the faces of everyone he encountered."
