Hailstorm Injures Almost 100 During Louis Tomlinson Concert

Almost 100 people were injured after a hailstorm hit at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre during a Louis Tomlinson concert.

Large hail was pelted at the crowd during severe storms throughout the area. At least seven individuals were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Up to 90 people were treated on scene, with injuries that included cuts and broken bones.

One concertgoer, Bella Oliveira said she was almost trampled as she and others tried running from the hail.

“I managed to hide where they were selling drinks and I used my backpack to protect myself and another girl."

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued around 9:04PM, with warning the storm was capable of producing winds up to 50mph, and golf ball sized hail.

The amphitheater was tagged as the dangerous weather approached.

“We are still in the ‘loaded gun’ scenario of having tremendous instability."

The Storm Prediction Center warned of a level 2 out of 5 “slight risk” of severe weather for Red Rocks and a level 3 of 5 “enhanced risk” for the Denver area.

It was said there could be damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes extending overnight. Six tornadoes were also reported in Colorado.

“Devastated about the show tonight, hope everyone’s ok, I’ll be back! Even though we didn’t play the show I felt all of your passion! Sending you all love!" Louis Tomlinson said.

The performance had already been postponed twice due to weather conditions. The venue had told fans to take shelter in their cars before giving an "all clear" which brought the fans back, only to postpone and send the fans home.

Another concertgoer, Ashlie Scott described the chaotic scene.

“The minute they announced it was an extreme weather warning and we needed to seek shelter now, the sky opened up and it started hailing and pouring rain."

“It was almost like a crazy movie scene. The sky was lighting up with lightning, so I was expecting a quicker extreme weather warning besides a delay.”

Videos show hail coming down a staircase as lightning flashes in the sky, and concertgoers pass by. Four large hailstones can been seen in her hands.

Another video shows a group hiding in a crowded bathroom.

Jessie Mueller, another concertgoer said, “About 10 minutes before the hail started really coming down, I got hit with a small piece of it, and didn’t realize it was hail until it started coming down on us out of nowhere."

“We are unharmed, but some of my other friends got caught in it and now have broken bones and bruises. I saw just piles and piles of hail, and it looks like it had snowed in the seats of the amphitheater when we finally got out of the bathroom.”

A minimum of 11 tornado reports were made across western and central US, including 6 in Colorado, 3 in Texas, 1 in Wyoming, and 1 in Nebraska.

Four people were killed in a Texas town during one of them.
