Amanda Bynes Detained by LA Police

Amanda Bynes has been detained by LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department). She was spotted in handcuffs and brought to a police station for a mental health evaluation.

This comes just three months after she was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold.

She was reportedly walking through downtown LA without any clothes on in March. She allegedly waved down a passing car and told the driver she was coming down from a psychotic episode.

She then called 911 and was escorted to a police station, where a mental health team determined she needed to be placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold.

This means it was an involuntary hold, allowing the person to be detained for three days due to a potential threat of self-harm, harming others, or becoming gravely disabled.

That weekend, she was scheduled to appear at 90s Con in Connecticut but pulled out just before. The reasoning presented was that she was suffering from an undisclosed illness.

Former costar Kel Mitchell requested fans "send a prayer" but didn't disclose any other details. Kenan Thompson ended up replacing her as a surprise guest.

She has struggled with mental health for a long time, being placed under a temporary conservatorship in 2013 after a series of mental health and substance abuse issues.

Her mother, Lynn was in charge of her personal affairs and health care.

Amanda filed a petition to terminate the conservatorship in 2022, and a mental capacity declaration saying she is mentally fit to look after herself and her affairs.

At the time, a psychiatrist said she has "no apparent impairment in alertness and attention, information and processing or ability to modulate mood and affect and suffers no thought disorders.”

One month later, the conservatorship was ended after Lynn submitted a declaration of support for Amanda's request.

“She’s doing great both physically and mentally. She’s elated the judge agreed with her request and is determined to make the most of this next chapter.”
