Maxine Klibingaitis Dies "Suddenly and Unexpectedly."

 Aussie actress best known for Prisoner and Neighbours, Maxine Klibingaitis, has passed away at the age of 58.

Her death was announced on Tuesday via Facebook.

“We regrettably announce that actress Maxine Klibingaitis has passed away today. Maxine played the much-loved character of Bobbie Mitchell in Prisoner, Terri Inglis in Neighbours and many other roles in Australian TV,” read a statement posted on the Prisoner Facebook fan club, Partners in Crime.

“Maxine was only 58. We send our sincere condolences to her son, Zane and Maxine’s family & friends. RIP Maxine.”

The star played Bobbie Mitchell on Prisoner from 1983 to 1985, and was a part of the hit series Neighbours for six months.

The group who posted the statement claimed it was not a "hoax" as the news came from a close personal friend of the star. Her death was “sudden and unexpected."

“Just to clarify for those inboxing me, the sad news is not a hoax. A very close friend of Maxine’s called me late today,” the statement read.

“[They] asked me to post the sad news so that Maxine’s fans would know. Maxine had many fans. Regards, Maria.”

The Neighbours alumni was born in Ballarat, Victoria and was married to TV director Andrew Friedman. They have one son together, Zane.

She was last seen in public at a reunion for Prisoner in Melbourne 2019.

After Neighbours and Prisoner, she went on to star in The Flying Doctors and Home And Away in 1988, Family and Friends in 1990 and Blue Heelers in 1994.

Her last credited role was in The House Cleaner in 2013.

Her family have yet to comment on her death.
