Leo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese's new film 'Killers of the Flower Moon has just received a nine-minute standing ovation after the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
Scorsese was joined at the screening by Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone.
It is an almost three-and-a-half hour film, that was adapted from the book of the same name by David Grann. It is set in Oklahoma in the 1920s and showcases the serial murders of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, which was later coined the Reign of Terror, and led to the forming of the FBI.
“It’s taken its time to come around, but Apple did so great by us, shooting out there … there was lots of grass — I’m a New Yorker. We also lived in that world with the Osage, we really did, and we really miss it.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever experienced [anything] like this.”
It has been dubbed “Leonardo DiCaprio’s best performance yet”.
“The dignity and care for the Osage perspective was genuine and honest throughout the process and the Osage responded with the kind of passion and enthusiasm that met this historic moment."
“For those of us who were watching from the sidelines while our best and brightest among us auditioned, sewed, catered, painted, acted and advised the filmmakers, it’s going to be hard not to feel our presence in helping to tell.”
This was not the only film to make headlines.
Harrison Ford’s digitally de-aged face made a long-awaited appearance during the world premiere of 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.'
And Johnny Depp made an appearance promoting his new film 'Jeanne Du Barry' which received a seven-minute standing ovation.
'Killers of the Flower Moon' is expected to be released in October this year.
