Heather "Dooce" Armstrong, Author & Mum Blogger Dead At 47

Heather Armstrong, author and kick starter of the mummy blogging trend, known as 'Dooce', has died at the age of 47.

"Heather Brooke Hamilton aka Heather B. Armstrong aka dooce aka love of my life. July 19, 1975 - May 9, 2023. 'It takes an ocean not to break.' Hold your loved ones close and love everyone else," an Instagram post read.

Heather passed away due to suicide at her Salt Lake City home, boyfriend Pete Ashdown confirmed. He said she had experienced a relapse after being sober for over 18 months.

Heather begun blogging under the name Dooce in 2001, showcasing her family name on mummy blogs. She would write about mental health, her recovery from alcohol abuse, and insights into motherhood as she raised her daughters Leta (19) and Marlo (13) with ex-husband Jon Armstrong.

She has previously stated that she looked toward herself as "someone who happened to be able to talk about parenthood in a way many women wanted to be able to but were afraid to."

Her last blog post thanked Leta for her support amid her sobriety, where she wrote, "Here at 18 months sober, I salute my 18-year-old frog baby, she who taught me how to love."

"One of Leta's greatest talents is the way in which she views the world. Her photography resembles 8 mm film footage. She sees heritage in the mundane, value in the slightest change of hue. She extracts light from every shape and shadow."

Heather's blogger success led to her publishing a 2009 memoir called 'It Sucked and then I Cried: How I Had a Baby, a Breakdown and a Much Needed Margarita.' 

She has also been named by Forbes as one of the 30 most influential women in media.

She is survived by her two children.
