Princess Charlene Condition "Reassuring" After Hospitalisation

Princess Charlene of Monaco is recovering after she was hospitalised in South Africa.

"On the night of September 1, Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco was taken to hospital after becoming ill due to complications from a serious ENT infection. Her Highness is being closely followed by her medical team, who say her condition is reassuring," said the palace in a statement.

It has been reported that the princess suffered a "medical emergency." Afterwards, she was reported as "stable."

She was allegedly "rushed" to Netcare Alberlito Hospital after a "medical emergency" that occurred at the Thanda Game Reserve.

It has been suggested she collapsed but there have been confirmations of these reports.

Details of her overnight stay were not shared.

The princess's hospitalisation came not long after Prince Albert explained Princess Charlene was "eager" to return home and hopes to soon be reunited with her family.

The princess has been stuck in South Africa since mid-May due to a spring of medical procedures that were scheduled to correct a previous ENT surgery and fix the infection Charlene gained after the first procedure.

"She's ready to come home," said Prince Albert. He explained her return date to Monaco "depends on what her doctors say."

"I know she's said possibly late October, but that was before this most recent round of appointments. I'm pretty sure we can cut that time frame a little short. She's ready. She's jokingly said that she's ready to stowaway on a ship to come back to Europe."

It has been reported her condition has improved since her last four-hour surgery. "She was in good spirits."

During her family reunion in South Africa, Prince Albert accompanied Charlene to an appointment to meet the surgeon who performed the most recent of her surgeries, to get "a new reassessment about how things are holding up."

During this time, Princess Charlene also bonded with her 6-year-old twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques. "Of course she was delighted to see us and to spend time with the kids," said Prince Albert.
