ABBA Announce New Album

ABBA is back!

The Swedish pop group have returned to the scene after a 40-year hiatus, and will be releasing a new album along with a virtual concert.

Anni-Frid Lyngstad (75), Agnetha Fältskog (71), Björn Ulvaeus (76), and Benny Andersson (74), will be releasing a 10 song studio album and a concert. Both will be titled ABBA Voyage.

The announcement came during an overnight livestream event, which was also called ABBA Voyage.

The group first hinted at a reunion and new music on August 26th. Their Twitter account directed fans to AbbaVoyage.com, their official website, where they promised a "historic livestream."

During the livestream, a montage of the band in their younger years singing several of their hit songs throughout the decade was featured. Another montage was featured that showcased superfans, including Kylie Minogue, dancing along to the band's songs.

The event then went on to surprise fans with the premiere of their new music video and song 'I Still Have Faith In You.'

"When Benny played the melody, I just knew it had to be about us," said Björn.

A second song, 'Don't Shut Me Down,' was also released.

The virtual concert has been reported to be using motion caption technology in order to make the band appear younger, and in their 70s glory.

Benny and Björn revealed they initially decided on two songs, but instead kept it going and chose to do a whole new record.

"It's about realising that it's inconceivable to be where we are. No imagination could dream up that, to release an album after 40 years and still be the best of friends, and still be enjoying each other's company, and have a total loyalty," said Björn.

The album is scheduled to drop on November 5th, and the virtual concert is set to open next year in a custom-made area in London. 

It will be for six nights per week, feature digital versions of the band.

The band separated almost four decades ago in 1982, and claimed they would never get back together.

During the last 50 years, the group have gained over 400 million album sales.

They won Eurovision in 1974 and released several albums in the 1970s and 1980s.

Their songs were used to create the iconic musicals Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
