Kurt Cobain's Childhood Home Will Soon Be Showing Private Tours

Kurt Cobain, rock musician known for Nirvana, grew up in Aberdeen, Washington. He lived there from 1968-1984. His childhood home, is now being restored in order to give private tours to fans of the late icon.

The current owners, of the home, Lee and Danielle Bacon, have said their plans to recreate the vintage feel of the home are "90 to 95 per cent complete." Due to neighbourhood zoning regulations, they are unable to transform the house into a full museum. They are planning to start private tours in early 2022.

"Our goal is to make the house a tribute project to Kurt's early life and career, with museum detail," said Lee. The next chapter is how to make that happen."

The couple purchased the home from the Cobain's in 2018 for $225,000 USD. They have been renovating it since 2019. Inside will feature the original dining room table and china hutch from the family, the mattress from Kurt's bedroom, and the toddler bedroom set used both by Kurt and his sister Kim.

"I enjoy being involved and providing my input. I am very happy and supportive Lee and Dani took this on three years ago," said Kim.

Also, the home, thanks to Washington state's Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, will be included in the 'Heritage Register' of culturally important buildings. 

Executive director of the state's Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, Allyson Brooks said, "It's rare to have a childhood home considered. Generally we want to be sure that we're acknowledging that something happened in a childhood home that was significant. In this case, it's Kurt Cobain, who developed his musical passions and skills in Aberdeen and in that house."

As well as the home restoration, Lee has purchased a 25,000-square-foot-building in downtown Aberdeen that he plans to use as a "Tribute Lounge and Gallery Cafe" in honour of the superstar. 

He has said the space "will tell the story of the house" as well as Kurt's time in the area. Inside will be artifacts, memorabilia, photos, and images from Charles Peterson. 

In the process of being made, is also a plaque for the home. Lee has said, "We have to write it for someone in the future, 20 years from now, who wants to learn about Kurt. We want it to be for someone who doesn't know who he was or the contributions he made."   

It's already clear people from all over the world will be lining up to see where this rock legend grew up and gained his passion for music, which led to some of the most amazing songs in the world.
