Radio Host and Drummer Dead At 60

Musician Carlton Jackson, known for his stints in the Portland jazz and blues scenes, has sadly passed away at the age of 60.

Carlton was taken from us at his home in North Portland, happening quite soon after his birthday. There is no cause of death released.

Carlton was one truly terrific drummer, having played alongside Bo Diddley, Billy Eckstine, Kenny G, Bruce Willis, Booker T. Jones and many more.

Carlton was also known for hosting The Message on Portland radio station KMHD, where he played mixes of jazz and spoken, often emphasising civil rights and 'African American consciousness.'

"He was always available and willing to provide special radion programs when needed. He always spoke from a place of deep presence and reverence for the music," KMHD program director Matt Fleeger remembers Carlton.
